Default Paph mexipedium and bellatulum in bloom

The Paph mexipedium is not mine, but someone brought it for show and tell at the MOS meeting and I went ga-ga over it! He said this one bloom was early, and by June there will be many blooms. The bellatulum I bought last Sept from Hauserman's. It was sooooo small that I figured another two years before blooming. But low and behold.... it's incredibly small, but oh so beautiful. I'm in love!

That Mexipedium is impressive, looks very happy and well grown. It isn't the easiest of orchids.

Just to clarify though... It isn't a Paphiopedilum. It could be considered a Phragmipedium but is usually known by its own genus with just one species, Mexipedium xerophyticum.

That is a nice Paph bellatulum, too.

Thanks for the compliment on my paph. The owner of this plant (and I really don't know him personally), the Mexipedium said it's a little pricely a plant and not easy to find, even as a seedling, which is how he started. It took him a while to find just the right conditions for it to flourish. But now that he has, he's even starting another large container with a splitting of this same species. He's had this for quite a few years! He said it's impressive when they all start blooming. This one bloom seen in my pics is one that jumped the gun of all the others.
It's such a beauty, I had to take pics and share. And thanks for that info on it, as I really hadn't a clue.
