Cyprepedium acaule
Woo-hoo! My first wild native orchid sighting ever!!!
Ok, so I went to Riverhead Long Island yesterday and in one of the parks we (my group and I) stumbled upon about 6 specimens of Cyprepedium acaule, the Pink Lady Slipper orchid (aka Moccasin-Flower).
Enjoy!

Wow, great orchid to see in the wild. I would love to spot something like that, but Cyps are now very rare in the wild in the UK (although we do have some native ones).

Thanks! yes it is wonderful feeling to see them in their natural habitat. Almost like you found a faery in the forest.

I am sorry . Normally orchids grow on mounted places or higher racks. .but your pics of flowers are on the land.
I thought this Lady Slipper orchid (aka Moccasin-Flower) orchids grow on mounts.

Oh, this is a naturally found orchid in the wild. This is the way it grows naturally.
