Phrag. Mont Fallu leaves are browning... please help! Male
Default Phrag. Mont Fallu leaves are browning... please help!

Hello everyone! I have a Phrag. Mont Fallu that I repotted into S/H some months ago. I saw new root growth which continues. The tips of the leaves started browning which I heard can be from too much fertilizer. So I stopped fertilizing itabout two months ago. It started growing new leaves from the center but the older leaves continue to brown. I'm using water from my sink to water it like I do all my other orchids. Please help, thank you!

They're basically clay pellets. The brand is Hyrdoton. Their good for semi-hydroponics which is what I'm doing with this Phrag. It's also a good medium for orchids like cattleyas that like to dry out between waterings.

SP2340,I don't grow Phrags, but I think they want pure water. If you're using tap water they are probably experiencing salt build up, which could cause your leaf problems. You may want to get distilled water and water with that for a couple of weeks and see if they improve.

Darn, I suspected that as the problem... I was just hoping it wasn't. Thank you very much for your input.

well i grow a couple of my phrags this way and i think u are encountering a couple of problems...

the one that is brown all the way from tip to end, thats just b/c its old and the plant is reabsorbing wat it can retain b4 it rids it.

the leaf with the blotch is actually a bit of rot... normally cause by water sitting there for too long and allowing bacteria to fester...

the leafs with the browing tips--generally indicative of high salt content in the water.

hope this helps, good luck ^^
