This plant is equivalent to a triple crown winner in horse racing, which in turn leads to premium stud fees when the horse retires.
It is also an example of what line breeding is all about. You keep breeding with the best you can find,, and eventually you reach a higher standard (size, color or whatever).
Having said that, I noticed that they had seedlings for sale of this plant (4N) bred with another clone, that is 2N. While it might lead to above average quality seedlings, it is an evolutionary dead end (4N x 2N = 3N sterile offspring).

Looks like they are offering it cheaper, just $20,000;

Gee, I'd hate to buy it and then it gets scale or mealy bug after I get it.

I'm curious to know if an orchid hobbyist had to choose between buying a Phrag besseae for $20,000 US dollars and a brand new car that costs roughly the same price, which one would this person choose!

If I had the money and the passion for creating new hybrids, a stud plant with a proven track record of creating amazing progeny, would be my pick hands down. With this stud plant I can buy 5 cars in the future (with sales of its progeny and divisions)!!!

If I were an orchid breeder and I really thought I could make more money long-term buying a stud plant rather than investing that money elsewhere, it would be an easy decision.

It might be easier to sell truffles.
