Thumbs up Phrag kovachii

Call me economical, I am, anybody know vendor(s), U.S. and/or International, selling Phrag kovachii (species) seedling size, NBS or flasks for way less than $200-$300 for this plant?

piping rock orchids is selling seedlings of the species and three or four hybrids. I believe seedlings are 75 or 100.

I visited the nursery over the 4th of july. Glen has quite a few seedlings and he showed me some NBS plants also.

also try cloud's orchids in ontario canada. he had some small seedlings for about $80 when I was up there last. If there is a problem getting them across the boarder via usps let me know. Id be more than happy to pick it up the next time im up at claudios and drop it in the mail from home. also keep an eye on piping rock. they have had them on sale in the past for a really resonable price.

Best bet: just give it a few years. We've seen Phrag. besseae go from around $4,000 when it was first discovered, and today it's going around $20 for a first bloom seedling, with select parents...

Hi Shannan, in case of Wössner, you need to ask first whether they have it. They have it indeed listed, but not always available (at least, that's what they told me last time I met them in an Orchids Show)

On the other hand, they are always a good address, as they have a very interesting collection and very nice plants...

Yeah I email clouds orchids inquiring if they would have some available at NFOS in NY in October. Reply I received pretty much stated they wouldn't bring their expensive plants to the trade shows due to the probability of them being stolen and that they won't ship neither from U.S. from their shows.

Glen from piping rock will be at summerfest at parkside nursery giving a lecture about Phrag. kovachii. He probably will bring some if he is discussing them.

well maybe I'll just have to buy a couple of claudios seedlings when im up there in a couple weeks and send one down to you when I get back home . i know he's had a problem with people lifting expensive plants off his sale table at shows. heck, hes even had to corral off part of his greenhouse as a sale area because people have lifted things right under his nose. it sucks that some vendors have gone to extreme measures to protect themselves because people are such poops!

Pat, that's pretty much the way it is for anything. Not just orchids. All early adopters experience the high price rush followed by the low price blues. Good advice. Just be patient and wait is the message.
