Default For those who like to over water....

Phrag's are the best for those of you who like to over water! Someone (can't remember who) told me to sit the bottom of the pot in an inch or so of water and let it sip the water and still water about once a week. I am sooo excited to see all the new root growth since I have started doing this (about two weeks)! I understand I will have to change the potting medium more often, but that is fine with me! Yippee! now I need another Phrag to try in semi-hydo! and I just need to master the proper amount of lighting!

This sounds like fun, actually!! Man, something that is hard to overwater sounds like a dream!! I think of phrags like I think of irises...growing in swampy conditions with wetness very prevalent...maybe they are something I should try for fun! I did try 2 paphs once, and I did terribly with them... but that will not dissuade me!!

I completely agree with Becca. My Phrags stand in a saucer of water and they love it! Excellent growth so far, and the first one bought as a seedling is about to flower soon!

I once left my Phrag. Sedenii soaking in a bowl of water by accident for a week! Didn't seem to phase it in the least. In fact at last count I have 8 new growths emerging!

If only Paph's liked sitting in a saucer of water as well!

I also forgot to add that I just noticed a new growth starting as well!

Thanks Becca for that info! I've heard it too but have always been too scared to try it. I only have 2 phrags, one in s/h and one in chc. I think I'll pour some water in tonight for the one and see if it perks up a bit. I'm also unsure about the light situation. I'm always so scared I'm going to fry something!

Becca, congrats on the new growth!! Means more flowers next year!

Sarah - Do it! They will thank you for it. I waivered back and forth at the beginning. I was just so scared of killing them/rotting them. But, once I did start putting water in the saucers, I could tell the difference in the leaves - they really did want to have water at their roots ALL the time! Revelation! This summer all have started multiple new growths and they look HAPPY, HAPPY!

Mine are potted in a rockwool and bark mixture, so you can imagine how wet they stay.

How often do you have to repot yours due to the medium being constantly moist? I have mine in a mixture designed for paph's and phrags which contains medium sized CHC, alifor, perlite, and charcoal.
