Oh how exciting! I've never bloomed a phrag either (or a paph for that matter! ) so I can just imagine how you feel. I can't wait to see the development of the spike. Sooo cool!

Sarah, I have had one seedling Paph flower for me for the first time, and it was great! Now, just waiting for the others to follow suit.
I've only bought a couple larger sized plants in the Paphs and Phrags. Mostly it has been all seedlings, as its more affordable to get seedlings! I've tried to choose ones that have good named parents, so hopefully when they mature, I'll have some nice blooms. But the waiting is a killer sometimes!!
I reckon in 5 years time I'll have loads of blooms and a really nice collection. But for now, at least with the Paphs, I've got pretty leaves to look at (most of mine are mottled leafs).

I know what you mean, I have lots seedlings too. I am especially looking forward to seeing my paph. concolor bloom. It's really tiny though so I'm sure that I'm going to have a long wait. I think I would faint if I ever saw a little spike emerging from any of my paphs or phrags!

Sarah,
The very first Paphs that I ever bought were little seedlings 3-5 years from flowering!! Talk about teaching you patience - LOL! I have bought more since then - some older seedlings mostly - and I've had one of those flower so far. I'm hoping that this autumn/winter I'll see a few more, but I know I've still got years to go for some of them. But I am happy with the new leaves & new growths they are putting on. They seem like happy plants, so they will flower when they are ready.

Great growing Shannon! I think you'll find that the spike develops a lot faster than you think it will. I'd also bet it carries more than one flower. My Jason Fischer is a single growth seedling and it kicked out 3 blooms sequentially.
