Ok guys, after getting a Phrag. Jason Fischer during the latest Orchids Show here, I decided to try a second one.. Phragmipedium wallisii is on its way to Basel
Does anyone here has experience with this species?
What sorta information did you find out about wallisii species?
I do have a few crosses and have found them abit slower to grow, but easy to grow them. I give them catt lighting, the tempts can range from 68 into the 80's. RH not more then about 50 colder months - higher during the summer months. Just regular clean tap water nothing special.
semi-shade Vs. high light
RO Vs. tap water
Temp-hot Vs. cool-warm
large vs. medium sized plant
slow Vs. fast grower
easy Vs. difficult to grow
resistant Vs. sensitive to basal rot (summer time)
Lagoon, do you have crosses with wallisii or the species?
I don't have the species yet, I have some primary crosses. Phrags do generally like to be kept below the 70's but do well with higher heats to - you have to keep them moist. Wallisii is not a wet grower.
I understand the wallisii can be fussy towards tap water, I would only guess it would depend how bad or good the tap water is. Many hobbyists use RO water as they do with paphs.
My TW is a PH of 7.2 with medium hard water. I grow my phrags in sphagnum moss, they grow well for me.
Semi shade VS sunlight? I wouldn't keep any phrags in full sunlight unless this was early morning.
