Cym. Peter Pan size vs Cym. Sunshine falls Butterball

I am new to Cyms. but know I NEED one. I need as small as possible and warm growing. My choices are Cym. Peter Pan x sauve or Cym. Sunshine Falls Butterball. Which do you think will fit those two requirements the best?

Cym Peter Pan x suave, to my knowledge, isn't a warm grower. I wouldn't consider it that small either. Cym SFButterball is a warm grower.

Cymbidium ensifolium is an underrated warm grower with lemon scented blooms. In ideal conditions it can bloom 2x per year. Mine is in spike now and will bloom off 2 new growths in Fall.

My Cymbidium Eleanor Matsumoto (Peter Pan x suave) has narrow grassy leaves that are about 2 feet long when extended out. However, they are graceful and arching (instead of erect), so that the plant and its pot fit easily on a grow shelf that's about 18 inches high. I've only had it for a couple of months, so I can't confirm, but the vendor I purchased it from said that they don't need cool temperatures to bloom.

Based on the photos I'm seeing of Cym. Sunshine Falls 'Butterball' (note that Butterball is not part of the hybrid name, it's the cultivar name so it should be put in quotes) is the smaller growing of those two hybrids you're considering. The Kawamoto orchids photo has a measuring tape for scale, which indicates that the blooming sized plant in its pot is only 16" - 17" tall. In addition, since the foliage is more upright and erect in habit, it will presumably take up less space in your growing area compared to Cymbidium Eleanor Matsumoto.

So, I agree, the Cym. Sunshine Falls 'Butterball' is the one you'd want to go with if size is your primary consideration.

I cannot find an RHS registration for Cym. Sunshine Falls. Does anyone know the parents? This would help with the growing size and heat conditions necessary for this plant. It is either not RHS registered or Sunshine Falls is a trade name.

Go for it. Personally, I love the grassy foliage on Cymbidium Eleanor Matsumoto and those leaves are what you're going to be seeing most of the time anyway. The lip of the flower is stunning, and it's got a nice, pleasant fragrance.

Cymbidium Sunshine Falls (Cymbidium King Arthur x Cymbidium madidum) from Orchidwiz.

Cym King Arthur is half Sweetheart, which is smaller but I don't think really small. Cym madidum can be a beast... depends on what is dominant. So this hybrid may not require a winter chill, but if it got pretty big I would not be surprised.
