I agree, I would expect there to be potential for Sunshine Falls to get fairly large (at least larger than the other hybrid being considered).

However, the information and photos I'm seeing online for this specific clone (Butterball) suggest it is a small grower. There's a Kawamoto listing of a blooming sized plant next to a measuring tape showing that it's less than 17 inches tall including the pot. Photos of blooming plants from other sources look like they're of a similar size range, as well.

Very possible... I have Cym Pee Wee, which is madiddum x floribundum (pumilum) and it favors the floribundum parent - small, but lots and lots of growths... and spikes (it outgrows pots horizontally but vertically it would fit in a confined space)

I have purchased a number of Cym Sunshine Falls from a mass producer in HI. They arrive in 4" pots, bulbs are about the size of a large walnut, and foliage some 8-10" tall. That is based on growing in Hawaii.


I kept a few unsold plants. After 2 years in NJ (indoors Nov-Apr, outdoors in full sun May-Oct), and with my regular strong fertilizing program, the plants are somewhat larger. Bulbs are now the size of a large avocado pit, and foliage is 15-18" tall (upright, not curving).

It is still one of the smallest hybrids available, and cute.

For a plant that is reliably somewhat smaller, take a look at Cymbidium dayanum (species). If you can't find them locally, I have just divided a large plant, so I have multiple divisions available - as well as some NBS seedlings.

I wish! But there is a show near to me in 2 weeks! One of the vendors is holding my Peter Pan. The other is from a vendor in one of my fb orchid groups.
