I saw her standing there
This evening I discovered a Katydid on top of McGyver my (cymbidium) orchid friend. This bush cricket was cleverly blending (hiding) in with the spiky sprawling leaves of the outside plant, is this a bad thing?

How sweet. I don't think they eat plants. Where's the picture?

I don't know if they eat orchids or not, but they do drill holes in them to lay eggs.

Katydids
Apparently they nibble on plants.

Most katydids are plant eaters.
Now whether orchids would be on the menu for the ones in your area, I cannot say.

McGyvers mother lives here. I can tell you a katydid would be no match for McGyver. He's a tough cookie. Of all the pests we have, and we have it all, that one has never been problematic for me. Paul is correct though, upon some quick research, in parts if the world they are quite the pest! I don't think you need to worry Charles. But a picture would have been good!

I have holes in blooms from where the bastards have decided to dine. It amazes me that bugs that have never experienced an orchid in the wild will eat orchids.

It seems to me a Cymbidium, with its thinner leaves, would be more likely to be eaten by a katydid than, say, a Cattleya.

My cymb leaves are very tough and fiberous. Still, Charles will have to monitor the plant for damage.
