Is this cymbidium dayanum a lost cause??

I bought this little guy (2 in" pot, NBS) off eBay. It consists of one relatively big plant, and two or three smaller pseudobulbs. The roots look good, but the leaves on the biggest bulb look very suspicious to me. Two questions:

1) Can anyone tell what those brown and black spots are and whether they're cause for some real concern?
2) Can I still save the main plant, or if not, at least the smaller offshoots?

The damage to the older leaves is of no concern; the new growths look fine to me.

However, you're probably going to need to water the daylights out of it in what appears to be a very coarse mix. Constant moisture without suffocating the roots will serve that plant well.

Most Cymbidiums grown outdoors look like that. Search here on the name - from the top maroon menu - and you will find links to how others grow this plant. My seedling, from Carter & Holmes, is growing well in semi-hydroponic culture.

That is such a relief to hear, @Ray and @estación seca. As you can probably tell, I'm a newbie to Cymbidiums (decided to adopt one because my grandmother who raises them in Korea told me they are relatively easy orchids to grow). Thanks for the advice, and I shall do my best to keep them plenty hydrated!

Your plant looks healthy to me.
As ES said cymbs leaves are not pretty. If you could see mine you'd throw them away.
