Cymbidium goeringii has are distributed all over the place in China, Taiwan, Korea, and Japan. They are divided into several groups:
Cymbidium goeringii var. goeringii: this one is found in Japan, Korea, and China (around Shanghai and Zhejiang Province). They are naturally found at the northern border where this species is found. This type will only have 1 flower per stem.
The other Cymbidium goerngii variations are:
Cymbidium goeringii var. formosanum
Cymbidium goeringii var. longibracteanum
Cymbidium goeringii var. gracillimum
Cymbidium goeringii var tortisepalum
These are found in southern part of China and in Taiwan. They can have more than 1 flower per stem and can tolerate a higher temp. in the winter.
Lian ban is the garden name for Cymbidium goeringii var. tortisepalum that's all. In Asia, we use garden terms to distinguish each variations of Cymbidium goeringii, that's all. The botanical terms are how we differentiate these variations in the Western countries that's all.
