To those who live in mediterranean climates - Cymbs trouble flowering
This year only two of my cymbs had flowers, and in one of them they were ugly, stained and last less than a month.
I think the culprit was the cool weather mixed with lots of rain by the end of the spring, which is unusual around here.
Usually we have lots of rain but warm, not cool.
However I have lots of new shoots, some of them with leaves 52 inch long (1,33 m).
Did you experienced the same?

Cool to cold, with rain, sounds ideal for Cymbidiums. Do you have pictures to show what the flowers looked like?

The temp cycle this winter/spring was cool > warm > bloom > cool + rain.
It should have been cool > warm + rain > bloom > hot.
I don't have photos of the ugly flowers.

No matter the climate, it is always best to be able to place cyms when in bud and bloom, under some sort of overhang or overhead protection. Cool, rainy weather will promote botritis which affects the blooms and causes ugly spots on the flowers. Slugs and snails also thrive under these conditions. Without seeing photos, it is difficult to know what "ugly" looked like and what may have caused the problem.

I searched my computer and disks and could not find any photo of the ugly flowers.
I believe, the action of the rain together with unusual temps damaged the flowers.
Hopefully next year it won't happen.

Where I live, last winter/spring were ridiculously warm and dry. Summer has not been too hot (by our standards), but it has been dry.
My only cym has died, but I don't blame the weather, I blame myself and my lack of experience. I think I didn't water enough. I plan to buy a new one, I want to learn.
