I'm considering purchasing this species. How big is a mature plant. I know a lot of Cymbidiums can be very large. How does this compare to other species. What Cymbidium species are small enough to grow under lights?

Cym dayanum is one species which would grow under lights quite nicely as it can be kept small and still produce inflorescences of pendent flowers. Others to consider would be ensifolium, pumilum and sinense. A good reference for the Cym species is Stephen Early's site Cymbidium Species - Stephen Early

You could also check out some of the primary hybrids. Cym Miss Muffet, a cross of devonianum x pumilum is just one example of a very rewarding small plant to grow under lights.

Wow, that's great. That would work well in my growing area! Do you know of a source for the other species you listed?

There are many sources of these plants but the only always reliable source I would deal with is the Santa Barbara Orchid Estate in Santa Barbara,Ca., unless you can get to a show/sale and hope they might have a vendor there.

I think there are some members of this OB who may live in your area and hopefully they may chime in with some other sources of small Asian type hybrids or the species closer to you.

Carter and Holmes is selling two sizes of seedlings of Cymbidium dayanum album. I bought the smaller size in October 2015 and it is growing nicely. The leaves have doubled in length, and it has made two new growths.
