Section Jensoa species flasks

I am interested in peoples' views about this. I live in Australia which means flasks are about the only viable way of bringing in orchids from overseas for me. I have tried without success sourcing for flasks of Chinese cymbidium species in China and Taiwan.

I have heard that Taiwanese and mainland Chinese growers are very traditional and particularly averse to flasking of Chinese Cym species. I understand flasking of C goeringii is still at its infancy in South Korea and no one has been able to upscale production for export. No idea from Japan since the Japanese won't talk to outsiders about their oriential cyms.

Along these lines I have also understood that somatic embryogenesis (ie propagation by cloning in flasks) of oriental cyms is frowned upon by mainland Chinese growers. I believe the Taiwanese are cloning but they seem to be keeping things secretive to outsiders.

I wonder what other orchid board members who are interested in oriental Cym flasks of both species and sought after cultivar clones feel about this topic?

Are Chinese/Japanese/Korean cymbidium species and cultivars becoming popular in the US? Here in Australia, most people are only interested in the standard Cym and their multicoloured hybrids. Fragrant orchids have a special place in my heart.

Contact Ten Shin Gardens in Taiwan ( they have a website ). I have obtained ensifolium cultivars from them and I know many people who have obtained other 'Chinese' cyms from them too. They are fairly popular in this area as most species don't need any extensive cooling down period which is difficult for many to accommodate.

Thanks Orchidsarefun. TS Gardens are also not able to provide any flasks. They only grow and sell cultivar divisions. They and a number of my contacts were unable to find anyone willing to sell flasks at the recent TIOS. Which suggests to me there's some kind of reluctance opening up flask market to foreigners, because I know the larger nurseries are heavily into cloning phals and other commercially important export species.
