Rchb.f., Gard. Chron. 1869: 710 (1869).
Distribution Himalaya to S. Japan and Malesia
Cymbidium boat orchid...from ancient Greek kymbos=boat, the lip is shaped like a boat.
dayanum latinized = in name of John Day (1824–1888) was an English orchid-grower and collector, and is noted for producing some 4000 illustrations of orchid species in 53 scrapbooks over a period of 15 years. These scrapbooks were donated to The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew in 1902 by his sister, Emma Wolstenholme

Too bad the tinting on the photo shows the flower as green. It is actually a true white which makes the velvety ruby lip stand out even more.

Even if the color of the petals is not a pure white (such as Vanda falcata 'Tamakongo' has), it is a matter of fact that artificial light emphasizes some color shades not perceivable with naked eye, but that camera captures.

Personally, as a judge, I evaluate the color of flowers with the naked eye. You can put any spin on this photo you wish, but the base color of this flower in its natural state is not green. To make the viewers on this site believe it will bloom this color in their care is doing a disservice to them. Just my opinion but you might try a different filter next time which does not pull out the green tones.
