Default Cymbidium goeringii 'Tian Cao'

This plant pushed up 7 spikes last summer, but my stupid lazy watering blasted them all but one, which is now in bloom.
Better luck next year, I hope.

It has this strange (but slightly nice) fragrance to it.

Let me know how long the bloom lasts. I want to know if mine was normal.

I know, it was quite upsetting to see all others browning.
Oh, well...

I actually did not expect flowers as I don't have the right condition (cold winter) for this species.
I bought it because it was cheap and was in spike at the time. so I just went for it.

I will see how the plant will fare in the long term without the proper winter rest.

This plant is in typical cymbidium stones. I have no idea what to call them in English. It's a light weight stone.

You can use bark or anything else. it does not really matter as long as there is excellent drainage and a bit of moist in the mix. This goes for any orchids in general pretty much.[COLOR="Silver"]

Well, goeringii flowers generally do not stay around too long. One month is about maximum I'd say, and this is when you keep it quite cool as they should ideally.
Warmth will shorten up the flower life span greatly.

This particular plant was in bloom for barely one month last season.

I used to have a different goeringii (but also green flowers) and I had a perfect conditions. The flowers still lasted about one month.
So yeah, nothing like the large flowering cousin.

The leaves are the main point of enjoyment of these plants in Asia, so flower life span does not really matter.
It's more like bonus.
Many people in Asia grow these under a lot of shade to bring out the beautiful dark green colors on the leaves.
Mine would be laughed at in Asia as I grow mine in a lot of light and the green leaves are faded into yellow green.

Oh, well. I'm not in Asia. hahaha

This is the second flower for the spring.
There are four more coming, and one more is actually opening up behind this bloom.

I wish they opened all together. Oh, well...
Good thing is it smells really nice this time.

That's a really great-looking flower. And the foliage is attractive as well. Congratulations. It's quite a lovely combination of plant and bloom.

Only one bud opens at once? That is strange for a Cym isn't it?

No, it is typical of this species.
It only makes one flower per flower stem.
What I'm saying it the timing.
I have seen many times that Cym. goeringii have many flowers all open at the same time giving a nice show.
Mine has many flower buds, but they open one at a time.
