So a few weeks ago I caved and purchased a Cymbidium from my local Meijer store. I've always just had Phals and feel completely lost when it comes to this creature that I have now!

I read that you're supposed to cut the stem off before it's done flowering so that it will flower again. First off, is this true? And second, when exactly do I do that? A couple of the flowers are dying off now, but the rest are still blooming quite nicely. Do I wait until most are dead or what?

Also, is it okay to repot after I trim the stem off? Any recommendations for what to repot it in? I'm a little scared of it because it's so different from my phals!

Cyms are not like Phals in their blooming habits. You can cut the stem down to the base now and enjoy the flowers in a vase in the house or you can leave the stem on until all the flowers fade. The stem will NOT regrow as in Phals.

As to repotting you can search all the relevant posts on this Forum or if you are really serious about getting precise instructions, send a personal mail to goldcoastcymgrowers@gmail.com and ask for their free guide for Cymbidium repotting and dividing.
