i could use lots of advice...

Hi, the basic care instructions say they can tolerate up to 100 degrees F, and at 25 spikes are effected and at 27f, the leaves. They are big plants, but if they are in a covered area outside they should be okay most of the time. I've seen youtubes of Canadians who grow them.you only have to drag them into a shed if the temp gets down to 27. I am wondering if a blanket or similar cover would be okay.

Just checked the low until Thursday is 39 at night and a high of 71.....its freaking JANUARY! Gotta love Texas bi polar weather.

Seriously though, this thread has been educational regarding what I may be doing wrong with my only Cymbidium. I think too small of a pot, and maybe I'm too chicken to leave it out in the colder nights. Low 30s, I brought it in for the winter & it stayed.

I would be happy to send you the Cymbidium Repotting Guide which White Rabbit referred to. Just send me a private email with an addy I can sent it to. Not too sure why you are rushing to repot while it is still in bloom, but if the media is broken down, it should be on your agenda after you have time to enjoy the flowers and the weather warms up.

Keeping it outside during the growing season will be vital to it blooming again for you. Your dramatic changes of temperatures form summer to winter and serious lack of humidity are the reasons few Cyms do well in your area.

@ orchid whisperer for sure! Lol. @ Cym lady I took it out of the pot to check for rot and bugs and it smelled so bad I repotted it. I will send you my email. Where I live we have decent humidity most of the time until mid summer then its just hot and dry. And miserable.

So here's an update. I decided since the flowers were looking a little ragged to go a head and snip the spike so the plant can focus keeping its energy somewhere else.

I decided since they do well outside to add another to my collection. One for each side of my door....it's 3x's the size of my original plant. I bought 2 2 gallon gardening buckets and my newest plant barely fits in it it has so many roots and it so large. It had busted out of its original pot. Not as bad a decomp smell but still some decomp. I am noticing the tips of some of the leaves are Browning. I am thinking that may be salt buildup causing that. So I flushed it it really well after repotting it.
