My new Cymbidium NOID - Orchid Board

Another Ikea impulse...well...actually I saw it, left it, read about it and then decided to give it a go so drove back out and "saved" it.

They have so many orchids there and I bet most of them will end up dying

such a shame. Very good prices too, this huge 2ft tall one which is busting out the pot was £8...

I have it on my balcony at the moment, south facing, very sheltered (is a recessed balcony into the building, so has a roof and two sides and doesn't get frosty even though I live in Scotland, so thought I would see how it fared and can bring inside if it gets too cold!

Will update pics when (if!??!) flowers open!

Love cheap orchids from IKEA! Good luck, this Cym should love the cool temps of Scotland!

So healthy! The leaves are quite fan-like. I had no idea that Ikea sells plants, I'll have to make my first trip

Looks as if you need to drop pot it into a larger pot before it tips over.

I know! It's totally busting out, and it'll need the pot cutting from it as it's completely wedged in!

Is it best to wait until it's finished flowering before I repot it?

I just noted your saucer. Be sure the plant does not sit in water longer than 24 hours. If it does not wick up the water in that time after you water it, drain the saucer until you determine the plant needs watering again. This is especially true for winter.

Thanks for that! Yeah, I left it for like 30 mins and took it away (if I don't have a saucer at all it falls through te decking onto my neighbour downstairs!!!

It seemed very thirsty, was bone dry straight from ikea!

Thought I would post a few pics since it's now flowered! I am not sure about the colour, it's a little "biege" looking but it's got a lovely fuzzy appearance in the middle which is nice to photograph!

Seems to be doing ok outside too, considering it came from a too hot Ikea shop floor!
