Default Grammatophyllum scriptum var. citrinum

This is the unusual green form of the species …. endemic to Malaysia, robust, with fat pseudo bulbs and wide deep green leaves. The plants are around 20 to 24 inches in height. The flower spikes emerge from the base of the bulbs and are tall with anywhere from 50 to 150 chartreuse green flowers that have a delightfully sweet fragrance; the longest spike is about three and a half feet long. These plants make an impression when in bloom and as they mature into specimen size plants they will delight you with several spikes at a time. I got two flowering spikes +two unopened spikes +two knobs just starting to form into spikes=I might get seven spikes if they don’t blast on me. I inherited this already large specimen sized plant a couple of years ago given to me by Sven who is from Florida when I was still with the other forum with two spikes already fading its flowers= this time I have the chance to pollinate some flowers and see how many pods I can get. This is in a 10 inches diameter pot and there are nine large bulbs that need to be divided or I will end up with a gargantuan plant. It is as of now 35 lbs. heavy with all the flowers that it fell several times from hanging so I have to put it outdoors wired to the ledge of the fire escape.
I give this Medium light from my East facing window with electric humidifier in winter. The leaves on these plants are somewhat thin; since my apartment is low humidity due to my AC= I must be vigilant about misting the undersides of the leaves to help prevent spider mites from attacking them. The fertilizer crystal that dries on the leaves is hard to get rid of even how many times I had to clean it with soap. And I am very particular about neat and clean leaves.
I water every other day in summer and weekly in winter or I wait for the mix to become just dry between watering. In its habitat, there is an extreme dry hot period then the monsoon rains drench them for days….yet I do not overwater this orchid in my care for fear of bacteria and fungi infestation of the roots. I feed it weekly weakly K-lite fertilizer and seaweed mix.
