Default Looking for cymbidiums crossed with canaliculatum

Hi
I am looking for cym. Crossed with canaliculatum. I have had great success with canaliculatum var. sparksii and LBS as well as Australin Midnight and would like to find others to play with.
If you have any pieces to part with or know of anyone in the US please let me know.
Thanks
Mike

I am surprised you have success with canaliculatum and its hybrids in Ohio but you must have a dry greenhouse. Here is a list of canaliculatum hybrids which may help you:

Australian Midnight
Black Ruby
Bungy Jumper
Canalow
leai
Little Black Sambo
Wee Willy

Do you also have success with madidum or any of its hybrids? You mentioned Little Black Sambo and that is a cross of both these species. My biggest negative to hybrids from these species is the large size of the plants even though the flowers are relatively small.

As far as sources, Santa Barbara Orchid Estate in Santa Barbara, a well known and reliable nursery that ships, may carry some of the above crosses as well as some of the madidum hybrids, of which there are many.

With the success under your conditions you might also look into the suave hybrids as Kurunda. The plants tend to be smaller.

Hi
Yes my greenhouse is on the dry side. I use a Aquafog 700 to keep the humidity up and a over head home made watering system to water and feed.
During the summer most everything goes out to a shade house I made out of a old dog run.
I do have LBS and a few Madidium species and hybrids.
They grow like weeds for me. Even the back bulbs seem to sprout quicker than most.
Do you have any Madidium hybrids to sell.
I am especially interested in crosses with Canaliculatum
And would like to find crosses with it . I do have Cym Autralian Midnight . If you have any let me know or if you can send me a picture of the plant- plants.
Thanks
Mike

Mike,

Here is the RHS link to the first generation madidum hybrids which I sent to you as an attachment to a PM.
The International Orchid Register / RHS Gardening

Keep in mind that there are now 2nd and even 3rd generation hybrids which will take the madidum traits one step further.

Diversity in a collection is always important in my opinion, so you do not get bored with the same-old-same-old look. With the way you are growing, I would look at other species and their hybrids to round out your collection. You do not need to concentrate on the warmer growing Aussie species and their hybrids.
