Yellowing pseudobulb?

Hello everyone, I got a new cymbidium this pass weekend, CleoSherman"Fujiamax Cleosherman" and the bulbs it has white flowers that look like they are almost done. However there is some yellowing of the bulbs and I am wondering what that may be and how should I go about taking care of it, specially if is already compromised.

Where have you placed this plant before? Cymbidiums like lots of light.

It was bought as a gift over the weekend and was given to me today. So I don't know about care before. Right now I gave it some very diluted organic kelp, and place it on a East facing balcony with my other Cyms. I know is from Sequoia orchids. So I guess I could call them up and ask about it.

I am thinking it may just be because it was indoors for awhile, but basically if the pseudobulbs are still firm to your touch, it looks okay. Just need maybe more light, more water. The old flowers once wilted, you can cut off the entire spike. It may be turning yellow, just due to the age of the pseudobulb. I see there is new pseudobulb growth coming about. So that will be the new source of your future flower spike later on.

And if you can call the seller, sure, ask them how they grow it, to give you guidance how to handle the plant.

Your Cym. looks normal for a plant grown in bright light. If you ever have doubts about a recently obtained plant, always contact the seller.

You might also investigate using some other fertilizer. Organic kelp has nowhere near the needed nutrients as a stand alone fertilizer has.

I only use the kelp because I did not want to do to much not knowing what is going on with the plant. Now that I know I can start taking proper care of it.

You are right it was indoors for a while and that cause the yellowing. I have it know on the balcony were it will get full morning sun once I remove the shade cloth, I want to make sure I don't shock the new growth and so I giving it a lot of light and slowly getting it to get morning sun.

Will keep you posted as to color enhancement as it gets the amount of light it needs.

Don't coddle a Cymbidium. They thrive on "studied neglect" as some say and will die if "over-anythinged".
