Yes, NJ has the HH summers (Hot and Humid), with temps soaring to 105 in our area.

Depending on how much effort you want to go to, you could go out to mist down your plants a couple of times a day. Using an electronic timer on a faucet, you could also set up a sprinkler or a misting system to go on.

The occasional 90F is not a problem as long as the plants are shaded in the afternoon when you generally reach that temp. Spray lightly as Fairorchids suggested if you are concerned.

One way to see if the plant is too hot is to feel the leaves. If they feel hot, then spray.

BTW, have you checked the Search icon on the OB menu? There are many threads on Cymbidium culture. Just remember the old saying: "ask 10 people and you will get 12 different answers!" Use your common sense to see what may or may not work for you under your climate conditions.

Unfortunately 90 here in the summer is not occasional. July and August will likely hit 100+ some days. Climate change is causing hotter, drier summers for us as in other parts of the world. I suspect we will have a very hot dry summer with high wildfire danger like much of the west. Yes, I will play it by ear and attempt to use what little common sense I have )

My Cyms get sun all morning, shaded later, and they have never had problems with very hot (and dry) daytime temps - occasionally over 100. I have one that even gets sun into afternoon, and no problems. Mine are outside year-round, so I would just suggest to not suddenly subject them to hot sun. Morning sun, shade by mid-day is ideal.

The area around Grant's Pass has always been a heat sump Pokey49. Nothing new. A member of our local Cym. club moved to that area and is learning to grow as one would grow in Sacramento, CA. Hot and dry is not the natural environment for Cyms. but I am sure you will find a way to grow them for your pleasure.
