CYM beginner question

It just dawned on me regarding putting the cymbidiums outside. I would think the deer that we get in the back yard would consider them as tasty little morsels, the buds and blooms that is?? They will eat about anything else so assume they will eat orchids

Deer can develop a taste for orchids but usually will concentrate on the blossoms first. At this time in your area, you will probably have the blooming ones in the house due to freezing weather. Otherwise, you will have to find a way to protect them.

I have a problem with them from time to time and fence off the orchid area. I also have heard that if you get bars of Ivory soap, cut it into six pieces and put each piece in a little mesh tie bag used for rice at weddings, this will work. Hang them around the orchids. It has worked so far for me this year, but then the deer are also still working on acorns. My rose growing friends in Oregon swear by this method, but deer can change their habits, as we all know.

I accidentally broke the top 3-4 buds off of an emerging bud spike on one of my cyms. Will those remaining buds still bloom? They still appear nice and healthy.

Quite likely the remaining buds will be fine.

The remaining buds will open and will be just fine. Just not so graceful a stem had it had all the flowers on it on maturity.
