blooming for the second time this year, but only one spike.
It has a much stronger "stem". I attribute this to moving it to a much sunnier position near a south-facing window. I originally bought it as it had variegated foliage - but have never seen that again, in shaded or sunny positions.
It has a wonderful scent

When I bought mine from Matt Chen at Ten Shin orchids, I learned that the variegation appears only young foliage and that the stripes fade as the leaves age. So now you know too

This one is gorgeous, and so festive with xmas colors:-) May I ask what medium do you use for your cymbidium? I dried the roots from the over watered one yesterday due to the heavy rains we do have now, and need to pot it, but lecca pebbles and tree fern chunks did not work, so I am looking for something different? Many thanks

Lovely blooms. I can imagine how that great ensifolium fragrance must be right now.

Mine is potted in large sized Orchiata bark . It is ina deep pot as they have "tap" roots. I actually have two. One in a tall clay pot which I got bare root last May and which is blooming now with a second spike developing. I also have one in the traditional tall plastic pot in large bark which I got only 2 months ago which is not doing much at all.

mine is in a cymbidium plastic pot - tall and about 4in. Large bark, 30% mixed with fine and some chopped sphagnum moss, about 10%.
It does smell heavenly !

When non stable variegated plants start new growths, they often start with a slight variegation which increases in succeeding growths until it reaches the maximum potential for that plant. Then it reverts to all green growths for the plant to gain back strength as the variegated leaves, lacking green pigment, will not bring in enough nutrients for the plant. Many times the front end of the plant with heavy variegation will be sold for a higher price with different nomenclature than the remainder of the plant.
