Here is an updated photo with all but the last bud on this spike open; there is another spike on its way too . According to Matt, the flowers should last 2-3 weeks.

Wonderful, Carrie. The fragrance on these is their most attractive feature, IMO.

mine last spiked in July. Its spiking again, after I moved it to a sunnier position. It seems to prefer more sunlight - it was in a shaded south-facing window, now in another room with an unshaded south-facing window.

Most of these "oriental" cyms has flowers that do not last very long, but many are nicely scented.

I didn't know ensifolium blooms more than once a year.

I really want to try one of these then.

By the way, Carrie, do you remember if the vendor had any Kanran?? That is probably my favorite of all oriental cymbidiums.

Satomi at Seen Engei has them occasionally. I got mine from her last year. You might also want to try Glen at New World. He's recently gotten into oriental Cymbidiums and he's currently taking pre-orders for his trip to Japan for the Grand Prix show in February.

Cheers.
Jim

Sorry, I have no recollection other than he had several different ones at our Orchid Society meeting last month. You'll have to ask Ten Shin. I looked up a picture of Kanran and now I want one too - so thank for feeding my addiction!!!

you know, I thought all Cymbidiums were like the cut flowers you see in markets. All these narrow petaled types are amazing.
