Well I certainly learned a lot from this thread! From what I understand, this is a species that needs frequent watering and fertilizing to keep up with it's metabolism...which is that of a race horse!

I've also read that they LOVE compost...as they live high up in tree's and enjoy the fallout of debris. In addition, they are one of the few orchid species that, once acclimated, can withstand full sun! They love heat as well...and can tolerate very high temps and do not like cold at all. Apparently, the back bulbs will die off...begin to rot and even smell, get mushy, etc. Then they turn into a papery hard disk that ultimately helps feed the plant in the form of compost. Evidently, many people get upset when that happens....thinking their specimen has rot.

I found a lot of information last night on a Botanical Garden web site....but can't for the life of me remember where it was. They suggested that the species does NOT like to be repotted so cutting or breaking pots away seems to be the way to go with this one.

PeeWee....I love those pots too. I think I read in a previous thread that the place in Homestead doesn't sell their pots online....I may have to come up with the desire to go to the Keys for the weekend!
