Quay;

On your first picture, the first character is Chun. The 3rd and 4th are Lian Ban. Not sure about the 2nd.

I just remembered I have Matthew's Cymbidium retail price list and it has both English and Chinese charater names. Send me your e-mail address and I'll send it to you.

Cheers.
Jim

Sorry for the confusion. I have tags that say "'Lien Ban'" and tags that say 'Var alba' There aren't any that say 'Lian Ban var alba'

Regarding the hand written labels...

You've already seen the characters Chuen Lan (aka Spring Orchid - denoting Cymbidium georingii).

The next 2 characters are pronounced "bai hua", which literally means "white flower". 100% sure, without a doubt.

Ok, then I think we can say that the first plants with the printed tag are Lian Ban, and the ones with the hand written are an alba form of goeringii

For the second tag, the first character is white, and the second character is flower. Hope that helps!

I just registered to answer your question.
春蘭蓮瓣 is traditional Chinese character
the simplified form should be 春兰莲瓣
春=spring 蘭=orchid 蓮=lotus 瓣=petal
it means Lotus-petal-shaped spring orchid
there are thousands varieties can be included in this group
蓮瓣=lian ban(Chinese pinyin)

---------- Post added at 02:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:44 AM ----------

according to Chinese national standards, the formal English name for莲瓣兰 should be Cymbidium lianpan Tang et Wang. lianpan is Wade-Giles romanization for 莲瓣, the same as lianban.
I've no idea about "Tang et Wang".
The English name "Cymbidium lianpan Tang et Wang" first came up in a book written in 1991.

I read Chinese and the 3 & 4 Characters are not Bai Hua.
It is definitely pronounced 'lian ban'
