Default Two more No ID Cyms

Both are very reliable bloomers.

The wine colored one unfortunately does not display the blooms well. Short spikes and crowded blooms *sigh* It is a very robust grower and bloomer, tho. This is literally half the plant it was last year - I divided it last spring. Before being divided, it was very snug in a two gallon pot - and had NINE spikes on it! Both divisions got three spikes this year.

Thanks for looking

I would love to live in a cooler but not freezing climate like California and grow these outside. sigh..

I can see what you say about the flower presentation of the red one.
but both plants have such clean leaves!
I see all too many NOID cymbidiums in the winter but almost all have "nasty" leaves and some even have flowers with watery or brown spots. I never buy them.

How often do you divide your cymbidiums? how tall are they? the green one? I'm in love with that plant and its flowers

Thanks I like them both - I love the colors, and at least the wine colored one, the color makes the blooms stand out against the foliage, even if they don't display well.

Hmm... I haven't looked too closely at Cyms for sale for some time. I got both of these 4 years ago at Costco, and both looked nice at that time. The only Cyms I have bought since that time were a couple from orchid shows. I wonder if the difference is in the climate ?

As for dividing - as I mentioned, I got both of these 4 years ago, both were in Cym pots (6" ?). The reddish one was bigger tho, already filling up that pot. The next year, I potted that one into a 2 gallon pot, which it proceeded to fill quickly. I wasn't planning on dividing it last year, originally, but then I noticed I felt sick with dread just thinking about repotting it at the size it was, so I figured I better divide it. And even with dividing it, I ended up potting this division in a 3 gallon pot (had planned/hoped to put it back into 2 gallons, but that wouldn't leave much room for growth). The green one was still in the 6" (?) Cym pot last year (tho the roots had broken the pot), and I potted it up to a 2 gallon pot last spring.

The other Cym I divided last year was the pale pink one I posted a month or two ago - that one was very crowded in a 2 gallon pot, and like the red one, one division went into a 3 gallon pot, one into a 2 gallon pot, plus another small division into a 1 gallon pot. I don't remember exactly how long I've had that one - a few years longer than the red and green ones. The first couple years I had it, it was neglected for long periods at times, so it didn't grow robustly for a while. And, I took a small division off that one about 4 years ago, for someone who asked.

The red one is about 40" tall. total (including the 3 gallon pot), the green one about 32" (but in the smaller 2 gallon pot).

Photo of green cym with a 1 gallon water jug for size perspective - definitely not a monster Cym. And photo of red cym last year, pre-dividing, crammed into the 2 gallon pot.
Just remembered I had a pic of the green Cym roots/broken pot - tho the roots didn't do all that damage; roots had broken the pot at the bottom, and then when I was unable to get the plant out of the pot, I used that as a starting place to tear/break and cut the pot ... (and looking at that pic - maybe those Cym pots are bigger than 6" ? 8" ? )

My first thought in addition to beautiful flowers was that the leaves were so clean and healthy. I recently saw a Cym in a garden center near me for $75 and the spotting on the leaves and the price sent me in the other direction. I will have to see if Costco near me carries any
