Woo hoo!!! Always nice to finally get something to bloom after a wait. I know the feeling well. Congrats Sonya. Please show flowers when they appear.

Thanks I'm very happy it has decided to bloom finally! Right now there are 4 blooms open - this spike got 7 buds - I have read that 5-15 blooms are typical, so I'm not unhappy with that. The second spike isn't showing buds yet.

That is beautiful, Sonya! Congratulations on a job very well done! What do you think got it to bloom, was it just waiting until it felt mature, or did you do something differently?

Thanks
Hmmm - Well, I moved it to a sheltered spot last winter - generally my Cyms are sitting out in the rain all winter, unless I want to protect large buds or blooms - it doesn't bother them, nor did it seem to bother this one either; plant grew well, roots have been great! But, obviously I needed to try something different to hopefully get this one to bloom. I couldn't think of anything else to do differently, other than to keep it dryer. So, last winter, I let this one get near dry in-between waterings, and then due to the fact that I, rather than the rain, was watering it, it also got fertilizer over winter Since then, I have continued to let the media approach dry before watering again... I expect it was the change in watering that likely did the trick - At least I hope so, otherwise I don't have a clue
I did also repot this past spring - first time since I got it - it got a larger pot, and I potted into coconut husk chips mix, rather than bark like it had been in - but I don't think that likely made the difference - but who knows ...

Hi Sonya,
I can fully empathize with you! I felt the same way when my first dayanum spikes appeared.
I was advised to feed my plants gaviota67 for 1 day followed by gaviota63 for 2days and repeat. The gaviota63 and 67 are extra diluted in the range of >1 teaspoon per gallon of water. However, I flush my plants with water before every feed.
Right now my vandas are blooming profusely!
You might want to try out my feeding regime?
Eugene

I've had some 'foliage' orchids for years and have been waiting patiently for buds. Oh, the joy of finally seeing something other than roots and shoots. I would be doing the happy dance!
