I seem to ask this question every year !
I THINK I have a spike or 2 developing. The growth appears different - more "dagger-like" as opposed to fat and rounded.
Can you spot the difference ? Which is the spike ?
I vote for spikes it is your season for Cyms to kick start their spikes. Just to confirm look for clear sap " nectar drops " oozing from the growth this will means spikes
there have definitely been "nectar" drops.........but I had them last year as well and all the growths turned out to be just that. As there are 2 distinct types of growth, I know that at least 1 type will be a spike. I hope !
time will tell and yes they will look and feel swollen rather than flat. You will just know a spike as it matures just like a spike on a Phal compared to a root.
The smart money seems to be on flower spikes. We are just finishing our flowering season down here and with your seasons the opposite from ours...........
