Cyms are pretty (very!) robust. Old backbulbs with no roots can be propagated, so I wouldn't worry too much about lack of roots (if that turns out to be the case), however it may be 2-3 years (tho maybe not) before this plant can bloom again. Plastic pots are great for Cyms, since they do not want media to dry out. The pot should drain well, however. I've only ever got rotted roots on Cyms when they were inadvertently sitting in water too much.

No, he actually rescues orchids that have been thrown away and brings them back to health. Most of his collection are rescues. That's what I understand anyway.

well today I got what I had left re potted. Not a lot there, but maybe something will come of it. It took a root mass? from the other half it and potted it as well. Nothing to loose I suppose but some bark mixture, water and hope. The new growth stem that came off, I have been soaking in water, not sure if you can get an get it to grow or not. This plant was a 20.00 at a grocery store, got 5 months beauty out of it.
I like a challenge, usually its bringing old cars back together. I have several other plants that I pick up off the 1.00 table and have added to my garden. will post photos in a bit.

Cymbidiuns will NOT sprout from a mass of dead roots. Do not waste you time.
I hope when you potted up the remaining division, you only had enough roots to anchor the plant in the pot. By that, I mean you should have cut the old roots to no more than 2" and then stripped any wet, mushy outer covers (velamen) off to preclude more rot.
I wish you luck but it will be a long time before you see blooms again. A further note, your plant should not be set in the ground as you have it. It just invites critters to enter the holes at the bottom. Place it on a paver or a couple of bricks if you want it in the garden setting.
Good luck,
Cym Ladye

Hi, thank you for the reply. I really appreciate all the tips and help. I did cut all the roots back, so I hope it can recover. Time will tell.
