Default Grammatophyllum scriptum ‘Early Riser’

Grammatophyllum are the family among the largest orchids in the world. Gram. speciosum is in the Guiness book of world records as reaching 2000 pounds with 7 foot leaves and 9 foot flower sprays.
My 'early riser' is 5 years old and very well established. This is an awesome specie with dramatically arching long spike of amazing spotted/waxy textured flowers. These beautiful orchids will bloom with lots of 2-3 inch flowers and will usually last up 2 months. It has the fragrance of a fresh cut grass and pine trees after a rain shower.
This is one of the newest Gramatophyllums that I got a year and a half ago being released by Kawamoto of Hawaii. Pot size is 5 inches and the plant stands 18-22 inches tall and it needs repotting, I will do it after the flowers are gone.
These are easy to grow if given enough water and fertilizer. This orchid is a vigorous grower; they increase in size rapidly if re-potted into larger containers. They have a tendency to drop leaves if grown too cool over the winter(as you can see with the two other bulbs with no leaves), but recover rapidly when growing season starts. They like high sunlight to set flowers.

Thank You, Paul ! I got this from Kawamoto of Hawaii a year and a half ago....I think this is one of their new released plants. They still have a few I think....this can double up fast and I just repotted this when I first got this now I need a bigger pot....

Thank You, Sonya !

Thank You, Silken !

Thank You, Ron ! yeppers, this grows in the seventh floor of a Manhattan apartment....this is with my Vandas in the fire escape at the moment....last winter it was center window of the bathroom....beside the spike is a new budding bulb so I must repot even while in bloom...the flowers last for a couple of months, but dont open fully flat like the ones I see in pictures

The last picture is a comparrison of the other Grammatophyllum scriptum I have:Grammatophyllum scriptum v kiilani....notice that the kiilani can fit inside the bulb of the 'early riser'....very strange yet they are both Grammatophyllum scriptum but different variations(the miniature and the big brother)

Does the kilian blooms with so fewer flowers than the big relative? is it normal? is it a younger plant? love those blooms! and the quantity of the larger plant
