Cymbidium Little Black Sambo in bloom and a new shoot!
Default Cymbidium Little Black Sambo in bloom and a new shoot!

So I have been growing this plant for a few months and it is finally in bloom. I normally don't buy plants that are not in bloom, but this one has little variation in flower, if not zero, so I got it.

It's been in bloom for about two months now. It has nice fragrance during the midday.

I just noticed that there was a small light cream colored shoot emerging next to the big mother pb.

I like this plant but it is getting a bit too big for me already. I wish there was a smaller version with the same long flower spike. maybe in the near future?

What a gorgeous Cym!! Love the color, love the arching spike, and just love it all! That's a puny little Cym, not large at all! You'd better not get rid of it, that would be a crime, it's too gorgeous.

I agree with you there Camille. Look at that spike! There's no way I'd be getting rid of that cym.

Camille,

You obviously have never grown a multi spike Little Black Sambo! Window sill growers they are not. Four to five bulbs will fill a 2 gallon pot with ease with leaves to go along. Beautiful shapely flowers on the awarded forms but I know of none with small bulbs that are recommended for small space growing. They also require a high level of natural light.

Thanks, everyone. I like the dark spike and the flowers. It is not small at all. It is more than 2 feet tall and the leaves are quite erect but do spread out a bit. The leaves are very very hard like plastic.

It is recommended to hang, which I can't, or opt not to, then the flower spike just hang down naturally, but I put a stake and let it stand up a little then the rest bend down.

I lost the tag but it is an awarded clone, AM/AOS was at the end of the name.

I love that you live near the Williamsburg bridge(on the second picture) ... I am on st Mark's ...your place is probably 30 min walk away...

Hi, Bud

I live a little further up. It's Queens Boro Bridge.

Do you really want this?
I want something from you (not money), so maybe PM me and we can talk about a deal?
