New to Cymbs root growth or spike

I received a healthy beautiful Cymb fro
My husband for my birthday about 3 wks ago. She has slighlty greens leaves bc my apmt just starting recieving evening sun. Also leaf tips are browned up a bit maybe from less watering. I have had a tendency to over water but I really do not want to kill her. I notice two new growths the are very lime green in a mitten shaped. I applied a few drops of tea tree oil and jojoba oil to water and poured it on her just to combat any mold she has. I am not sure if I should repot yet she still has space bit where the new tips are its hitting the pot. Any ideas , thanks everyone have a good day

Cymbidiums like crowded pots but should be repotted into a pot that allows 3 years growth. Cymbidium roots grow down and long. They should be in well draining mix but they love to be moist. The tips usually turn brown for underwatering/drying-out. Cymbidiums are pretty easy to grow and are fun.

Leaf tips will also brown ahead of the foliage dying off naturally, or from accumulation of mineral salts from fertilizer. Doesn't hurt to give the media a good flushing (should be done once a month)

Cyms do like their water, just don't leave the pots sitting in water, and make sure the pot drains well.

If yours is currently blooming - you can wait til it's finished before repotting, unless you have reason to think the plant is ailing.

Once you get your first orchid, the next thing to do is to read, read, read. If you will click "search" on the menu bar of this forum site and put in "Cymbidium culture" you will come up with 78 different threads concerning culture. Some may be of other genera, but you can screen those out. Once you get through all those posts, many with the same questions you have, you will be an expert..... well maybe not an expert expert, but you will definitely have a better idea of how to care for your plant.

Thanks for all your help and advice. They are new psb coming out. I wanted to change the medium to chc but Im not sure if I should. There is about 6 psb in there but the 2 new ones coming out are hitting up against the edge and dont have much room.

Do you have any pictures? I would not worry. I have seen some really crowded pots before. Cymbidiums don't like to be over potted. However, if you want to change to a different medium then do so. CHC should work well for your Cymbidium.

If the current pseudo bulbs are hitting the side, IT IS TIME TO REPOT!

The old story of Cymbidiums liking to be crowded in the pot is nothing more than a continuing old wives' tale. People see an overgrown pot full of bulbs and lots of spikes and think that is the way the plants like it. That is exactly the time to repot/divide as the plant will go downhill from there on because it runs out of mix/nutrients. The more bulbs there are in a pot, the more spikes you may get for one year, but if you do not allow the bulbs to grow to their maximum size to bloom, you will sooner rather than later end up with nothing but a large overgrown pot of pretty leaves.
