Hi everyone, bought this cymbidium at costco a year ago, I'm new to this type of orchids. Actually neglected for quite some time (rarely watered), then found it a happy spot in a southeast window in January (morning sun, bright the rest of the day) and started watering it once a week. To my amazement I have been watching this potential spike grow within weeks of finding a new home. What is your opinion - spike or new growth?
It's always hard to tell with small growths on Cyms, but I'm fairly certain it's a growth. It doesn't really look like one, and a spike would not come up in the middle of back bulbs like is the case here. Spikes come from green bulbs.

When I first started growing Cyms I could never tell myself, until somebody referred to the spikes looking rounded like bullets and the growths more pointy.
Using this reference I would say that is more pointy than rounded and thus lends itself to be a growth.
I would say new growth too as a spike comes from last year's mature green growth. But feed this one well over the summer and give it a good chill in late summer /fall and you will likely be looking at a spike next year!
