Ok, that's a great idea. Thanks Silken! I have one that has to be repotted and/or divided, so I'll probably do the experiment with that one. I'll try to find the group in San Diego, there's areas in that County that have similar climates to mine, but as a whole I think it's mostly coastal.

Thanks for all the advice! I really appreciate your time!

Well, here is my Cym with the 3rd spike nearly fully open. It's planted in about a 2 gallon pot! The centre is full of old back bulbs so I guess I should really re-pot this spring. I see 3 new growths for sure and I think some more will still show up. Since all the old bulbs are in the centre it will likely mean dividing the plant into about 3 pieces The leaves are a lighter green in summer, but it gets a bit less sun in winter and the photo makes them look darker as well.

Great Job, I love it! Repotting/dividing will be a bugger....I was practically wrestling on my lawn with them the last time I had to do it and not looking forward to the next time!!

Where on earth do you find space for 22 of them?? I have 2 and they take up a lot of space!

They winter in my husbands shop which we keep heated (for the cymbidiums) and in the spring/summer/fall months in my arbor. Still lots of room as his shop is 1100 sq ft!

That's pretty strange because my hubby's shop is exactly that size! It is heated to 50F unless he is working in there when he turns the heat up. However the welding/grinding fumes would likely kill my orchids and he won't let me even have a fridge in there never mind orchids

Ask him politely if he would kindly do any welding/grinding outside? I'd be scared to see my husband doing this kind of work in his shop, not sure why we have a big shop... it just is a place to keep our toys, snowmobile, golf cart, riding lawn mower....cymbidiums..

I think you answered your own query! Sounds like a great place to keep all your toys...and chids. My hubby is Mr. Tool Man and there is no extra space for plants anyways. I do have a greenhouse attached to the house so I can't complain. But no room in there for more than 2 cyms!
