When do you no longer need a pot for grammatophyllum? I have read some treads talk about not needing pots after their around 12 inches or so. However, I have seen some people with grammatophyllums with no pots and smaller size plants. I am getting a 4 inch grammatophyllum rumphianum. I know they like humidity but lots of air too. I have a humidifier that I can keep it next too and in an open air basket. Any opinions?
There epiphytes in nature so they do not need to be potted. You can grow them mounted or in baskets out of flask. You need higher humidity and will have to water alittle more. They will out grow a 12" basket fairly quickly.
If it where me, I would put it in a teak or plastic basket with hydroton and let it over grow the basket.
Yeah, thanks, that was what I was thinking. I just wasn't to sure about what inert medium to use. I was think about ecoweb cubes but I like the idea of hydroton (plus I have some).
I keep mine in pots and just use a more open mixture. I think as long as you can balance watering against growth and the breakdown of the mix, it doesn't seem to matter what they're in. At least in my experience
