Default cym.

Well folks, I am going to take my cym out of its pot today and TRY to get out all of the old medium, the roots as I remember are very thick and totally tangled. I am either going to "kill it or cure it". This is no little cym, its BIG. Not looking forward to this and I will let you know how I do.

Default CYM REPOT

As the Brittish would say "what a bloody mess"! I took pics of the ordeal but can't seem to figure out how to post them on here, can someone help me with that?

I was surpirsed to see that there didn't seem to be any new root growth since I repotted it last Feb. The roots were extremely dry and I just watered it on Wednesday, gotta rethink watering. The roots were so rootbound the only way I could get the old medium out was to run it under water in the sink. The roots seemed to become very pliable and cooperated with this bath.

I only had medium bark mix with charcoal and bits of styrofoam in it and sphagnum moss so I mixed the two together, hoping the plant would not get so dry between waterings......not sure if that was a good choice or not, but, I had to repot quickly due to those bugs!

The video on YouTube said not to water it for 10 days, anyone disagree with that? I am in a very arrid climate and the cym is in an east window which is open and gets a breeze 24/7. So I am not sure about the watering advice.

Thanks folks for your diagnosis, you were correct, I would have never figured it out at this point in my Orchid knowledge!

It is easier to get the old mix out if you cut the 1/3 - 1/2 off the bottom of the root ball BEFORE you try to remove the old stuff.

In your climate, I would go ahead and water lightly now.

@ Cym Ladye, thank you for your advice. I am going to water it normally, don't want it searching for water and getting more upset at me! Seems to be doing ok but time will tell.
