Oeceoclades maculata in spike in July?
I thought this was a fall bloomer. Not that I'm complaining.  By the way, I am aware this species is considered invasive, however I find it beautiful and quite interesting, and I do not let it go to seed. Any thoughts on the early blooming?

I just got it a couple of month ago. I dont know much about early blooming as I havent gotten it to bloom yet. But I am curious how do you grow it.
Also I didnt know that it is invasive specie - it probably wont survive winters here in Kansas even if it gets to seeds.

Growing it here is pretty simple, terrestrial mix (or really just about anything). Sometimes the soil dries out, but it mostly stays moist. Bright shade, no direct sun except maybe in the morning. I'm not sure about fertilizing, I just give it a little of whatever I'm giving my other orchids. |

Yeah I think it's only invasive in FL, shouldn't grow everywhere in Kansas, especially in the winter. Should be fun though, I like these. Keep us posted with pics!

Def not Angraecum or related to Vandas. It has a psb, and isn't monopodial. It grows new growth from the rhizome. Thanks. |

Oeceoclades are related to Cymbidiums. More closely allied to Eulophias.
Oeceoclades spp. in general seem to be very hardy specimens. I own an Oeceoclades calcarata, and it just takes abuse like no other orchid in my collection.

I do try. Just take stuff in the Misc. forum and try to place them in the right place. Also get to notice trends for what new alliance subforums may be in need. Ex: Arethusa alliance might be in order with so many posts for orchids in that alliance.
