It's cool. It is tough to figure all these out sometimes. Particularly when more and more people are getting into the more obscure species of orchids.

In my opinion, people purchase and grow according to the conditions they have, not because of any "proper" taxonomic nomenclature. If you are considering new forums to add, why not separate the misc into "Cool Growers" and "Warm Growers" and see how that flies?

That's not a bad idea. I myself become interested in plants due to the part of their biology that makes them fit into one taxonomical group or the other, not the conditions they grow in. To my chagrin I often buy plants that don't grow well in my conditions, I try to modify my conditions the best I can, sometimes I am successful, sometimes not. Then again, many of the orchids that would grow well for me, I simply am not interested in.
I think your idea is something we should get the rest of the Orchid board members to think about/vote on see if they want it to happen or not.

Eons ago it seems, I too like most novice growers, tried a little of everything and basically "tried to fit a square peg in a round hole" many times. I very quickly learned it was VERY expensive to create an environment conducive to the growing of many of the species outside of my natural environment, and I was not related to Warren Buffett!

So I specialized as I discovered that within the genus which grew well for me, there were hundreds of species which were all very different in flower characteristics. At one time, I grew almost all the Cym species but a handful, and when I found that the few not thriving needed different conditions, I placed them with other growers who had the conditions these warmer growing species wanted. Even within a genus, there are different cultural conditions needed and I never wanted to be responsible for killing a species.
