Default cymbidium 'Suzie Q' ??

I bought a beautiful cymbidium seedling off Amazon.com, which suprisingly has a nice selection. The orchid caught my eye because it was a stunning blood red. The vender said it was a new hybrid and was registered in 2009.No info on it's culture, or at least I can't find any. All I know is that its parents are 'Red beauty
" rudolph's nose" and 'Sue'? Can't find anything on that. Has anybody heard of this hybrid, or know about it's parents, or cymbidium/seedling care in general. thanks The picture below is of one of the parents, 'Red Beauty "Rodolph's nose". I could post a picture of the hybrid but it's practicly identicle as far as the picture shows. As for the other parent ('sue')I couldn't find one.

I would agree with Bluey on the parentage of your plant. It was indeed registered in 2009 and the originator was 'A. Easton' I assume that this is Andy Easton from New Horizon Orchids in California.

Care is very much as for large plants but keep away from extremes of heat, cold and moisture. It will fry in direct sun and freeze if it gets too cold. It will not flower for several years if it is a small seedling with few or no pseudobulbs so concentrate on getting good vegatative growth.

I can tell you exactly because I registered it. In fact the originator was Andy Easton but it was never registered and for years was sold under the name Rudolph's Nose. Andy requested that when I register it I not use that name. Since the parents were Red Beauty and Sue, and my wife was listening to a Credence song on the radio, she suggested Suzie Q. Andy happily concurred saying he was in fact a fan of Credence and would possibly do a whole line of Credence named plants..
So indeed it is a lovely red flower, and rather free blooming, compact.

Hi Bob,
Beautiful red!!!
Is there any 'warm tolerance' in it by any chance?

Rodrigo

If there is any warm tolerance I haven't seen much at all. Maybe a slight bit but not enough to say it has.

Default Cymbidium Suzie Q

Hi, about 2005 I brought a red cymbidium with a label (red beauty x sue) rudoph's nose. I have been looking for the name since. Is suzie q my orchid? Can use the suzie q 'rudoph's nose' name?

The cross of Cym. Red Beauty x Cym. Sue is Suzie Q so that is the official name. But I didn't see any awarded cultivars named 'Rudolph's Nose' although the Royal Hort. Society may give you more info on that. It may be their own clonal name the grower tacked on but I would assume it is not registered.

Has it bloomed for you? It should be a stunning colour.
