Happy New Year everyone!

Anyway besides Hatfield Orchids, where does one find other sources of cymbidium?

Thanks!

Top of any Cymbidium List: Casa de las Orquideas in Solana Beach, CA. for all cymbidium types, and Cal-Orchid for hybrids and other genera, and Santa Barbara Orchid Estate primarily for species. The last two are in Santa Barbara. The first is in the San Diego area.

These are the best in Cymbidium Nurseries in California along with Hatfield Orchids. They all ship but Casa de las Orquideas will not ship in spike. All have web sites so let your fingers do the walking.....

Happy hunting,

CL

I grew up in NJ so I'm familiar with your climate. You probably have your cyms in a greenhouse in the winter where you keep it as warm as you need for other orchids. Then you probably take them outside after frost days are over. Growing traditional cymbidiums such as the ones listed for the other nurseries aside from Hatfields can be a bit tricky as most if not all will require a cold snap and sustained cool night temps for floral initiation. Also these tend to be standards and not as well suited for greehouses as they take up lots of space.
Several of us with nurseries are producing smaller miniature to intermediate size cyms which have less temperature requirements and are smaller in stature. Feel free to contact us regarding other varieties. Just a suggestion....

Bob,

When did you last check the inventory at the Santa Barbara Nurseries? SBOE has miniatures of your description by the dozens. Just browse their online web site. Perfect proven plants for the novice, "inside/outside" cold climate grower.

Hi CL
I check it all the time.. and good that you mentioned SBOE as one.. it wasn't in your orig post..
There are some newer ones that have come along that aren't in SBOE too.. so more the merrier...

Hey Bob,

Translations on abbreviations:

SBOE = Santa Barbara Orchid Estate, very well known orchid nursery in Santa Barbara, California.

SB = Santa Barbara, CA - A beautiful seaside town in central California, hosting the SBIOS (Santa Barbara International Orchid Show) in the spring each year.

Cheers,

CL
