Peter, what species of cymbidiums are you considering mounting? As Philip noted, Cym. aloifolium would probably do quite well for you, as would Cym. bicolor. I have both and they grow very well in wooden baskets. I also have Cym. devonianum growing in a basket and doing quite well (although it's a water hog and needs to be drenched a couple of times per day to satisfy its thirst during the growing season). Some clearly might not be such great candidates for mounting (Large-growing Cym. insigne, tracyanum and any of their equally large-growing hybrids). But depending on what you have, it might not be a disaster to mount them. Good luck!

I already have sooo many flasks of the same cymbidium..... I just have to think what is the best spacesaving method of growing them.....It is Cymbidium tracyanum....Have already deflasked 350 plants and potted in baskets of sand to get them going..... Still got 11 flasks to go The mother plant is actually growing on my Mango tree as it had originally come off another tree

just came back from my vacation to our province in Bohol, Philippines and saw Cymbidiums mounted on trees and are healthy. I took pictures and the owner took a bolo and divided a few and gave it to me for free. i was also given several philippine native phals plantlets growing/sprouting from the roots which are also on trees.

I have three hundred Phals mounted on wood.... Doing great especially the ones I mounted upside down as theres less chance of rot in the centre of the leaves.
