Looking for Aussie Vendor coming to Santa Barbra Open House
Default Looking for Aussie Vendor coming to Santa Barbra Open House

Hi,
I am looking for Australian Vendors that will be attending the Santa Barbra Estate open house. I am looking for some of the Australian Cymbidium Species plants and was hoping I could purchase from you and have you ship once you got to the US.
Thanks,
Mike

The only Australian vendor that I see regularly at shows is Down Under Native Orchids. Actually...I think he's the only vendor from Australia that I've seen. Not sure if he checks this forum so you'll probably want to e-mail him.

Not sure if Granite Hill Orchids will make it to that show. He's based in the San Diego area but he imports lots of orchids from Australia.

Kevin Hipkins of Royale Orchids often comes over. I do not know about this year. However, the four Cymbidium species native to Australia may be purchased from several reputable nurseries here in California and perhaps one in Florida where they have already been reestablished. I also believe CITES may preclude some species from shipment to the US.

Readapting bare root Australian Cymbidium species to our environment is not always successful, unless you truly know what you are doing. Suave is extremely difficult and it and chloranthum want a greenhouse. These tend to do well in Florida conditions. Madidum is the easiest to adapt. Canaliculatum is somewhere in the middle, if you can give it the conditions it likes.

I take the Australian Orchid Review magazine - an excellent publication with lots about Cymbidiums.
Not sure if they come to the US, but some Cymbidium traders there are.....
David Keanelly Orchids dkorkids@aanet.au for Cymbidium Mericlones

Orchid Species Plus orchidspeciesplus@bigpond.com

Stephen Stebbing stephenstebbing@aapt.net.au for Species Cymbidiums

Valley Orchids graham@valleyorchids.com.au say they are Oz's largest supplier of Cymbidium plants

Hope there is something there to help.
Richard

Western Orchids send flasks from Australia and have various top cultivars of the Australian species. The also colchicine treat some flasks too to try and get 4Ns

They are about to go away for 2 months break though.
