Gramm. scriptum vrs. Gramm. multiflorum .

Is Grammatophyllum scriptum the same Grammatophyllum multiflorum ? I have two plants with very similar flowers one is label Gramm. scriptum ( From RForchids ) doesn't open fully and the other one doen't have label , the marks are very similar but the flowers open wide . Is the not labeled one Gramm. multiflorum or both names are the same .

No, they are not the same thing.
most Grammatophyllum hybrids and species look very similar, so if you have one without a label, you will not be able to identify it.

They are classified as different species. I myself don't know how to differentiate between those two. I myself have several Grams but when it comes to correctly identifying the true species name, I give up! Be it fenzlianum, rumphianum, var scriptum, var boweri, I'm totally lost.

Here's a really "scientific" way to tell the difference between mature plants of three types of Grams: Gram elegans, Gram scriptum & Gram speciosum.

If it's early summer, your plant has very long sprays of bronzy olive greens and your plant fits in the back of your pickup, it's Gram elegans. If it's mid summer, your sprays are chartreuse or chartreuse with brown bars & your plant fits in your van or SUV, it's Gram scriptum.

But if it's late spring, the flowers are chartreuse with brown bars ... oh yeah ... and you're loading the baby of the family onto a flatbed truck ... with a forklift ... then that's Gram speciosum.
