Hi I'm new to this site and growing cymbidiums just for the last 2 years. I acquired some divisions and I need to replant them. Does anyone know of a good supply store in the San Francisco Bay Area?

Thanks in advance

Hi Andria! welcome to OB!
I live in the south bay (west San Jose). I get "wonderbark" - medium and fine, at OSH or Summer Winds. I add perlite and charcoal which can also be found at those stores. HD near me carries (sometimes) Gublers orchid mix in medium and fine grades as well, tho the bags are small.
I pot cyms in regular plastic nursery pots which can be bought at these stores.

For media other than fir bark chips (coconut husk chips for example) I order from CalWest
Tropical, http://www.calwesttropical.com/index.php CalWest also carries 'orchid pots' - regular and clear.

Andria,

Most Cymbidium growers in California are switching to Coco husk, coir and perlite in varying combinations due to the deterioration of the quality of fir bark available. If you still want to use fir bark, the best brand is Rexius. For CCH and all other orchid supplies, I would recommend South Bay Hydroponics. They have several locations and are on the web. I believe they also have bark.

Welcome to the OB and good luck. You might let your fingers do the walking and visit the Cymbidium Society of America website and check out the two local branches in the Bay Area. These clubs deal entirely with Cyms and other cool growing genera and can be a wealth of "hands on" information. Both have upcoming shows, one in March and one in April.

Good Luck,

Cym Ladye
