Kim--
I've not spent a lot of time out your way, but I think that most of the warmth tolerant hybrids could be grown--provided that you were willing to give them adequate "shade" and water through the warm months... Anything with Golden Elf in its make-up I leave in the gh all summer, in direct sun (though the intensity is a bit less this far North), and water once if not 2x a day--they sit on a bench just in front of my Opuntias and grow like weeds all summer (as do my cacti)...most will spike in late fall/early winter.
